Seen through the prism of psychoanalyst, Yourcenar revisits the battle between Thésée and the Minotaur.
Faced with doubt when realising his future responsibilities, Thésée charges into the cave hoping to defy the man with a bull’s head but it turns out it is against the ghost of his past that he will have to fight against.
At the same time, outside the labyrinth, Phèdre et Ariane, Minotaur’s sisters, torn between their physical desire and their aspirations to pure love, want to see in Thésée the man that can bring both to them. On their way to Athens, they will follow radically different destinies.
