In 2007, Poland celebrated the hundredth anniversary of Wyspianski’s death; Wyspianski, considered the greatest in Poland, amongst its playwrights. “Ulysses’ home-coming” tells the mythical story of a hero, who having left his native island Ithaca, to go and wage war on Troy, attempts to sail back home to Ithaca, where Penelope is waiting for him. This most eventful voyage is, to Wyspianski’s mind a symbol of human life “You travel around the world, and through your own doing, you give it a shape”, he said, meaning that the world takes the shape that man is able to give it”. This is a simple production, but rich in its symbols. “Very polish” said Anna Dziedzic.
