The Show
This is a banal story about a king and a queen seeking for the perfect match for one of their daughters. A classical situation in which a troupe finds out many little troubles. An unexpected meeting with an audience which is too early for the show and which will progressively reveal the reasons of its presence. Some members of the company would be particularly shaken by some of the spectators’ revelations and it will not be easy for them to step back into their previous role of actors and actresses.
Theater company
Collectif 1984 is one of the 20 theatre and action companies recognized by the Wallonie-Bruxelles’ Federation. Since the foundation of the association in 1979, we have considered that our mission, as artists and actors, was not only to interpret the world, but also to act on its transformation. We have thought that the first lever for a transformation concerned our immediate social relations, which led us to choose our name "Collectif". Since then, our will to be “Collectif” irrigates both our activities and our internal organization. The second lever, in reference to Orwell’s book 1984, asserts the necessary criticism of a world that prevents all resistance, all contestation of its foundations, and all action against formatting and the single thinking. We reject the prevailing fatalism that pushes us to believe that the world has always been cruel, unequal, unjust ... and that it will always be so. But we are also attentive not to fall into pessimism or victimization. We make sure that our theatrical creations are not just a representation of life, misery, oppression ... but that they always give us a glimpse of a possible self-surpassing.The artistic approach we favour is the collective creation, which aims to give a "disadvantaged" person the opportunity of expressing oneself, while building a collective voice.
