The "cafés-débats" offer a deep insight view on Europe all along with some cups of free coffee and tea. They take place every afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Amal Association (a French-Maghreb association). French and English, the two main languages spoken, handle the exchanges of ideas and feedbacks while other languages, such as Polish, Italian, Spanish, Lithuanian, German and many others, step in for some interventions.
Thus, we can assist the whole European linguistic diversity. The daily conversations held between the young actors and the public during the cafés-débats report the impressions on the shows performed the day before. They question the troupe who played, asking questions about the history of their theatre company, the reasons of their artistic choices and the goals they pursue. Then the public express its points of view, its disappointment or enthusiasm. What’s more the companies describe their training process and the conditions of theatre in their native country both with their national history.
The troupes’ directors participate also to clarify some steps of the creation process or to provide some further information regarding the history of theatre in their native country up to the nowadays condition.
The cafés-débats are also an important environment of dialogue among generations; a learning context where to discover diversity through the debate. They are a school for the spectators, a school of gazes, a spot of richness and mutual education among the younger and the adults. They lead to the democratic debate and help with the learning, discussion and identification of sharing features in the multifaceted European context. They propose an awareness emerging from the analysis and the synthesis.
