In a faraway country, Zoza, the King’s daughter, never laughs. Bad luck!, the first time she bursts out laughing, she brings a curse upon herself: she falls desperately in love with a young Prince who was doomed by a witch to fall into a deep sleep forever. Zoza starts therefore a long journey to find the tomb where the Prince lies. In order to bring him back to life, she has to fill a jug up with her tears. She has come very close to succeeding when she falls asleep, out of exhaustion. A Moorish slave seizes the jug, finishes filling it up, wakes up the prince and marries him. But Zoza won’t surrender...
Zoza’s Journey is a frame story from a collection of tales written in the 17th century by Giambattista Basile, a Neapolitan writer. The performance was created in August 2018, in Monte Compatri (Italy), during a theatre workshop directed by Alberto Ferraro. It gathered 27 actors from 5 different countries.
