The artistic directors, directors of theatre groups and companies, persons in charge of cultural associations, were gathered together in Petit Théâtre of Grenoble from 5 to 8 May 2016, which was initiated by Créarc. They draw up an exhaustive assessment of Young European Theatre Rencontres which takes place at Grenoble since 1989 and the actions realized by Young European Theatre Network founded in Grenoble in 2004.
They observed with satisfaction that thousands of youngsters have participated to the Rencontres and the Network and that their hundreds of testimonies show that this participation was a fundamental experience that has changed their lives, their professional path and has sharpened their citizen implication, to the National and European levels.
Many festivals were born in different countries under the aegis of the Young European Theatre (Milano, Frankfurt/Oder, Oxford, Trieste, Syros...) and hundreds of bilateral and multilateral exchanges have animated the European cultural landscape. The Network is broadcasted in Europe and even beyond thanks to the work of its members. The Network has often intervened in the places that face a situation of crisis, cultural desertification where the problems of racism and exclusion are particularly important.
The participants, gathered in Grenoble, also took in account the fact that the Young European Network constitutes an actual European school of theatre that allows a sharing of artistic practices and different esthetics through a mutual knowledge, the valorization of differences and the creation of a consensus of common values.
The Rencontres and the Young European Theatre Network encourages a dialogue between inherited memories of a History that has left its marks by centuries of conflicts and the creation of a common memory in a Europe that is opened to the world.
The Rencontres and The Young European Theatre Network reaffirm and widen the values of tolerance, solidarity and mutual respect. It contributes to instore peace, liberty and democracy. They implement and actualize the treasure of values that The Enlightenment left us.
For all these reasons, the members of The Young European Network request to the European, National and Local institutions, the means in order to continue and develop a work that appears to them as determining in this situation of tensions, tragic problems and the transformations to which Europe is confronted today.
