The show
Collector of Tears is an epic love story for our times. Unable to age until she has cried, Tanya must collect the tears of others in glass bottles down through centuries – and through her stories, bear witness to the pain and suffering of the people. Taking both male and female lovers, Tanya is an outcast, hunted by those who misunderstand her, until the day comes when she finally stands up to be counted – and learns how to cry. In a world, which is on a path to destruction can we learn from the past and find our compassion and humanity before it is too late ? Using physical theatre, the production is a commentary, by young people, on the world they have inherited, a warning, a call to action to make changes now, for their future and those of generations that will follow them. A visual, heartfelt performance by this young ensemble company, whose voices will be expressed both in the UK and here at the "Rencontres 2017".
Theatre Company
Mandala Theatre Company is an Oxford based Community Interest Company (CIC) that uses the power of theatre to change lives, build community and foster social justice. We aim to connect people, enabling them to become global citizens through the arts.
Central to Mandala as a diversity-led company is:
- Visceral
theatre that is relevant, giving a voice to those whose stories are not heard
and making them visible.
- The
employment and training of young performers from ethnically and
socio-economically diverse backgrounds, in the pedagogy of theatre for social
justice.
- Theatre that exposes mainstream audiences to situations and stories they are unlikely to have heard, also taking it into the heart of the communities whose experience this is.
